Build On DIMO - March 2025

March 21, 2025

Spring has officially begun, and the DIMO Developer ecosystem continues to bloom with new app launches, over 250 developer licenses minted, and even more exciting builder updates on the way. This month, we’ve got some updates on the SDKs, are sharing some changes to apps on the Developer Console, and also have an additional sneak peek at the redesigned Developer Console experience, coming in a few weeks.

🔄 Simplified Workflow Updates to the Data SDK

The Typescript and Python Data SDKs have received some powerful new updates that aim to make getting started with DIMO data even simpler:

  • New Functions: We’ve added a new way for users to easily retrieve all SACDs for a given vehicle directly from the Identity API.

  • Streamlined Token Exchange: There’s a new function for getting Vehicle JWTs via Token Exchange that automatically handles privilege retrieval before exchanging for the JWT, removing the need to explicitly include an array of privileges in your code.

  • Clearer Naming Conventions: The “Get Token” function has been renamed to getDeveloperJwt and get_dev_jwt in TypeScript and Python, respectively.

These updates are designed to reduce boilerplate code and streamline how you access privileged vehicle data. You can check out all the detailed release notes over at our docs here.

🚘 Tesla Streaming Support

On March 1st, we officially began support for Tesla Streaming, which brings improved real-time data to Tesla vehicles. Previously, Tesla data was only available at approximately 5-minute intervals – with this update, developers can now access detailed Tesla streaming data down to the second.

This update opens up new possibilities for applications that require highly responsive and granular data from Tesla vehicles. One important requirement that developers should be aware of: these improvements are only available to Tesla drivers who have reconnected their vehicle with the DIMO mobile application and added a Virtual Key.

🪪 DIMO Developer Console: App Consolidation

An important update is coming to the DIMO Developer Console. Currently, developers who have an account in the console have the ability to create multiple “apps” under their individual Developer License. The truth is this: each app is just a configurational subset of your one developer license . This update is a precursor to a larger update later this year, which will enable builders to create multiple licenses under a single account, providing them with the ability to create truly unique applications separated by Developer License configurations.

To simplify this experience, we’re going to be consolidating console applications for any developers who have created multiple apps since the original launch of the Developer Console in August of 2024. Out of the 250+ Developer Licenses that have been minted since launch, only about 45 of those contain multiple applications – so this change shouldn’t affect most developers.

For builders or partners who do have multiple applications on the Developer Console, here’s what you should expect in the coming weeks: logging into the console will soon display only a single application (the very first application you created), and you’ll notice that any redirectUris or API Keys that were generated across your other applications will have been migrated to this single application.

This will not affect any experiences outside of the Developer Console – all credentials will still work as usual and there are no changes needed on your end.

For more updates about the Console, stay tuned later this year to learn more.

💻 DIMO Developer Console: D2 Redesign

Aside from the consolidation of apps on the Developer Console, we’re also preparing for a larger visual & functional refresh that will make it even easier for builders to get started building apps quickly. We’ve learned a lot over the past couple of months since launching the initial version of the DIMO Developer Console, and have gained invaluable insight from the community on what works, what should be improved, and how we can make the console an even better experience for builders.

When the official redesign launches next quarter, here’s some of the features you can expect to see:

  • A redesigned onboarding experience geared toward helping builders get started with their application faster.

  • A cleaner DCX purchase experience, and better messaging geared toward users who are accessing data for less than 50 vehicles – which will always be free.

  • A new “Integrations” tab, with support for both Webhook functionality and any Low Code solutions that you can use to integrate with DIMO, such as n8n.

  • A dedicated support experience for easily getting the help that you need, when you need it.

  • And much, much more.

We’ll have a ton more info to share over the coming weeks and months, and we’re excited to get the redesigned DIMO Developer Console in the hands of builders soon.
