Digital Infrastructure for Moving Objects — [DIMO]
Welcome to DIMO, where we’re building an open web3 IoT platform. We are focused on enabling:
- Vehicle owners to stream data and earn $DIMO tokens
- Data consumers to access anonymized data related to battery performance, automated driving systems, traffic, weather, and more.
- Developers to build applications for ridesharing, smart insurance, vehicle financing, and much more.
Web3 isn’t just about the metaverse — it’s about the real world, too.
The “metaverse” is the buzzword of the day. A massive amount of effort is being put towards building virtual and fictional worlds.
While there’s a ton of innovation that excites us here, we think building a fantastic virtual reality shouldn’t take priority over improving the world in which we live.
The first step is to connect the next generation of technology, capital, and design principles to the physical world, and there are already some great examples to work with.
Helium has built a user-owned telecom company with 300,000 (and counting) nodes in less than 2 years. Friends with Benefits has created a thriving community of over 2,000 curated members that mixes digital and in-person programming.
These networks are only limited by their ability to connect the digital and physical world. As a team with deep mobility, IoT, and automotive experience we’ve seen this problem, and we’re out to close this gap-allowing the web3 world to really start moving things around.
Open cyber-physical systems will unlock what we call the trusted machine age, and we’re building towards this future with a shared set of goals & guiding principles:
📲 Users own & delegate access to connected devices, so they work for their owners, not the companies that built them.
🔗 Network participants own meaningful stakes in the platforms they use, coordinated by tokens and economic incentives.
👩🏫 Developers can build apps and services that compete on their merits, not on access to gated distribution channels.
🏛 Privacy and regulatory oversight can coexist under transparent rules.
🏗 The physical and digital public goods that support modern connected devices can be properly funded.
…Which brings us to DIMO…
DIMO is an IoT data and connectivity protocol built on web3 technologies.
By securely connecting your car, you can become a data provider in the DIMO network. We’ll soon release our mobile app which will allow drivers to connect their devices to our open data marketplace and application development environment.
As the DIMO ecosystem grows, we’ll see new features and applications built for drivers, fleets, and enterprises (and we’re going to help seed these applications).
We’re building the supply and demand of our web3 ecosystem.
We’re building an open connected vehicle ecosystem.
Over the next few months, we’re deploying key building blocks on DIMO . This means the platform will be able to:
- Distribute $DIMO tokens for users providing valuable services to the ecosystem
- Empower vehicle owners to securely connect their cars to DIMO, allowing them to capture, store, and securely share their data
- Super-scale data collection, storage and analysis with our token that aligns platform developers, data consumers, and app builders
- Build next-gen consumer products and enterprise services: JD Power, Kelly BlueBook & Consumer Reports, peer-to-peer car sharing and ride hailing, Smart Insurance, and vehicle finance can all be re-platformed on our open tech stack.
At scale, DIMO has the potential to unlock $1T+ of new value through improvements in customer experience, R&D, coordination cost savings, risk management, and safety. We’re using our token ($DIMO) to bootstrap the network and make sure the platform is user-owned.
This is not a new idea. It’s just a more focused approach with modern tooling.
We’ve been following attempts to bridge the gap between crypto and mobility for years. Way back in 2012, Mike Hearn gave a talk discussing how connected vehicles could combine with cryptocurrency “Smart Contracts” to produce user-owned mobility networks and services. La’zooz conceptualized (and wrote some code to build) a Peer-to-Peer ride hailing network on ethereum in 2017.
All of that said, there’s no better time than now to build the DIMO community. Because today, there’s a comprehensive set of web3 primitives that will allow us to make a decentralized IoT protocol a functioning reality.
Who’s paving the way?
Our team has extensive experience building and bringing products to market in automotive, mobility, IoT, and web3/crypto. We’re building an open community around this idea, and have managed to attract some of the brightest minds in the space.
- Andy Chatham: 10+ years in mobility in product, BD, and ops roles with a focus on AV/EV technology. Most recently ran a team of hundreds working on Waymo AV deployments.
- Yev Khessin: 10+ years building distributed systems with a focus on vehicles. Founded a startup working on dispatch and mobility systems for Argo AI & Ford AV.
- Alex Rawitz: 9+ years at startups including crypto (Chainalysis), IoT, & telecom.
- Rob Solomon 10+ years in finance, (ConsenSys, Vroom)
Get going with DIMO.
The first and best way to get involved with DIMO is to create an account and put your car on the waitlist. In the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more information about our roadmap-including how users will be able to connect their cars to our platform.

Alex Rawitz has spent his career in and around startups in the crypto and IoT world, and is always looking to put these technologies to work making people’s lives better. Prior to DIMO, Alex worked with exchanges, defi protocols, and fintechs at Chainalysis. Before that he worked in sales at Servato, an IoT company in the telecom space. He started his career at a startup accelerator, The Idea Village, in New Orleans.
