DIMO Shop Reopening

A long wait is nearly over. After a summer of navigating supply chains and building great features into the DIMO Mobile app, we’re excited to share the re-opening plan for the DIMO Shop. Within here we will lay out some of the updates and upgrades, the reopening phases, and a new vision for the store.

First, let’s address the current state of preorders. We’ve delivered +2,200 preordered devices, approximately 50% of the total. We have supply now arriving consistently and have been ramping up fulfillment. With all the hardwork from the last few months, we’ll be able to fulfill all preorders by mid December. Just in case anyone is worried, everyone who has already ordered a device will receive theirs before any new orders are fulfilled.

Of the devices that are already out there, we have seen phenomenal adoption. Over 1,300 devices are already connected to DIMO, we’ve logged +20,000,000 miles, and we have connected cars from Hawaii to Finland. All of this is to say after almost a year since our initial pre-orders went live, the network we envisioned is starting to come to fruition. It’s time to keep growing.

The opening of the DIMO Shop will go through phases:

  • Waitlist Drop — Nov 15: The store opens with the first drop for all waitlisted users (added a car to the DIMO App before 11/11). Max 2 devices per order.

  • Public Drop #1 — November 21: The store opens publicly to all with another drop. Max 2 devices per order. Drops will continue as more inventory becomes available to manage lead times

  • Additional Drops + Fleet Launch — Coming later this year: The shop will reopen to fleets in the next few months. Over the course of the year we have had over 1,000 fleets reach out to DIMO and we are beginning some select testing with those fleets. Fleets will be required to take some additional verification steps before ordering.

Keep in mind, we still only support vehicles that are 2012 or newer.

What’s different about the Shop?

Before detailing the phases of reopening, let’s take a moment to digest some updates to the Shop. First off, you’ll probably notice an updated Frontend that takes us off the native Shopify themes and on to our own custom development. We took time to develop this Frontend to deliver a premium experience to customers befitting the craft we put into all the things we build.

Second, you’ll notice that we’re launching some accessories in the store. This is just a starting point, and eventually the store will become a hub for all kinds of devices and accessories tested with DIMO devices. We’re building a one-stop-shop for all DIMO-integrated products.. The store will eventually expand to include subscriptions and services that will further enrich the user experience of DIMO.

Our goal in these steps is to build the IoT3 and automotive store of the future. The automotive world is at a major inflection point; EVs, connected vehicles, and autonomous driving systems will change the way we relate to vehicles forever. We intend to support the aftermarket technology that will help people get the most out of their cars.

Reopening Phases

Waitlist — November 15

The waitlist for DIMO devices is officially closed as of November 11, 2022. Prior to this date we counted someone as on the waitlist when they had added a car in the DIMO App. If you take this step before November 11th, you’re on the list and you’ll be able to shop when the store opens on November 15th. If you did not, don’t worry, you will be able to order a device during the Public Launch.

On 12pm ET on the 15th you’ll receive a one time code that allows you to pass through the checkout process where anyone without a code would be stopped, and you’ll be on your way to joining the DIMO network. We will continue to enforce a cap of two orders per customer. While some slipped through the cracks in the past, we have put stronger controls in place to ensure equal distribution of devices.

Anyone who already ordered a device will not be included in this sale. We are committed to providing first-time customers the opportunity to order so more people get a chance to join. If you would like to order more devices, you’ll have to wait for the Public Launch.

Public Drop #1 — November 21

While the number of people on the waitlist does exceed the available inventory right now, we'll make more devices available to newcomers when we open the store for the public. On November 21st, anyone will be able to show up to DIMO and purchase a Data Miner. We will continue to enforce a limit of two devices per checkout.

More Public Drops and Fleets

We are managing manufacturing lead times by utilizing drops. No one likes waiting for their purchases, especially around the holidays, so we’ll be monitoring our manufacturing as closely as we can to make sure that DIMO users never wait too long for their devices. With Fleets, we’re putting some new energy into the Fleets program, so keep an eye out for more information on that.

Where is the store going?

The DIMO Shop will be an essential part of the future of the DIMO ecosystem. In the next 1-2 months we’ll share more about how the hardware ecosystem will evolve from just the DIMO x AutoPi devices to DIMO-compatible devices from other manufacturers, hardware that overlaps with other projects building physical networks, and even auto accessories that make for a better ownership experience.

We’re excited to bring more people into the DIMO ecosystem, and the reopening of the store today marks a great milestone in laying the foundation for getting more devices into people’s hands faster to realize our vision. . Don’t forget, many modern cars can connect without hardware. If you download the DIMO Mobile app and add your car, the app will tell you what options you have for your car.

FAQs

I still haven’t received the device I already ordered, where is it?

When will the devices ship?

Devices ordered during this store roll out will start shipping in December. We’ll fulfill orders in chronological order from when the order came through. To check your position in the order waitlist, you can go to https://orderlookup.dimo.zone/ and input your email.

Will I earn rewards from the order date?

No. We chose to provide rewards from the order date to previous orders when our shipping timelines were delayed.

Will I get an NFT like the Alpha or Beta Fleet?

No. We only did these commemorative NFTs for the first waves of preorders. Don’t worry, there’s no value you’re missing out on, and there will be lots more fun badges and NFTs to come.

Why did the price go up?

Since our last production runs, we’ve seen the continued effect of inflation and supply chain friction. Components are more expensive, harder to source, and we’ve also made improvements to the device and software. These include switching to Telit modems and spending even more money on security.
