Subaru Crosstrek vehicle data API: signals, model years and connection options

Get API keys →

DIMO gives developers API access to Subaru Crosstrek vehicle data. Model years 2013 and newer connect with a DIMO device (DIMO LTE R1 or AutoPi). Headline signals include odometer, fuel percentage and vehicle speed.

DIMO gives developers API access to vehicle-state data: diagnostics, fault codes, battery and fuel health, odometer, and maintenance signals. The Subaru Crosstrek connects through a DIMO device, with coverage for 2013 and newer model years, and that coverage has been tested rather than just expected. Once the vehicle is shared with you, you query its signals through the Telemetry API with a Vehicle JWT. DIMO adds vehicle-state depth on top of GPS tracking; it doesn't replace it.

No factory connectivity?

Subaru Crosstrek model years 2013 and newer have no OEM cloud connection listed. For these years, a DIMO device (DIMO LTE R1 or AutoPi) plugs into the OBD-II port and streams vehicle signals once the owner connects it and consents to sharing.

See the developer quickstart for how owners connect vehicles and grant access.

Events available

  • Idling
  • Refuel
  • Harsh braking

Build it

Query the latest Subaru Crosstrek signals with the DIMO TypeScript SDK. The vehicle owner must first share access with your app through DIMO Connect.

import { DIMO } from '@dimo-network/data-sdk';
const dimo = new DIMO('Production');
const tokenId = Number(process.env.DIMO_TOKEN_ID); // from DIMO Connect
const developerJwt = await dimo.auth.getDeveloperJwt({
client_id: process.env.DIMO_CLIENT_ID,
domain: process.env.DIMO_REDIRECT_URI,
private_key: process.env.DIMO_API_KEY,
});
const vehicleJwt = await dimo.tokenexchange.getVehicleJwt({
...developerJwt,
tokenId,
});
// Latest Subaru Crosstrek signals
const data = await dimo.telemetry.query({
...vehicleJwt,
query: `
query {
signalsLatest(tokenId: ${tokenId}) {
powertrainTransmissionTravelledDistance {
value
timestamp
}
powertrainFuelSystemRelativeLevel {
value
timestamp
}
speed {
value
timestamp
}
}
}`,
});
console.log(JSON.stringify(data, null, 2));

FAQ

Can I read fuel level remotely on a Subaru Crosstrek?

Yes, through a DIMO device. The record lists Fuel Percentage (powertrainFuelSystemRelativeLevel) for both the DIMO LTE R1 and AutoPi, and Fuel Level in liters (powertrainFuelSystemAbsoluteLevel) for the DIMO LTE R1. Query them in the Telemetry API with a Vehicle JWT.

How do I track a Subaru Crosstrek with no connected services?

Use a DIMO device. The record lists the DIMO LTE R1 and AutoPi as the supported devices for the Crosstrek. Once the owner shares the vehicle, you exchange your Developer JWT for a Vehicle JWT and read its data through the Telemetry API.

How do I detect idling on a Subaru Crosstrek?

Idling is listed as an event for both the DIMO LTE R1 and AutoPi. Query the Telemetry API `segments` resource with `mechanism: idling`, which requires a DIMO device. Segments are contiguous periods where engine RPM stays in the idle range, and `maxIdleRpm` defaults to 1000.

How do I verify Subaru Crosstrek mileage?

Odometer is listed for both the DIMO LTE R1 and AutoPi. To get a verifiable reading, call the Attestation API endpoint `POST /v2/attestation/odometer-statement/:tokenId` with a Vehicle JWT. Then retrieve the resulting credential through the Telemetry API.

How do I detect harsh braking on a Subaru Crosstrek?

Harsh braking is listed as an event for the DIMO LTE R1 only, not for AutoPi. Create a webhook in the Vehicle Triggers API with service `events` and metricName `behavior.harshBraking`, then subscribe the vehicle to it. Your targetURL receives a POST request when the event fires.

Which Subaru Crosstrek model years work with DIMO?

DIMO devices have been seen working on Subaru Crosstrek model years 2013 and newer. For older vehicles, contact DIMO for additional support.

Do I need hardware to get Subaru Crosstrek data?

Yes. DIMO lists no OEM cloud connection for the Subaru Crosstrek, so data comes from a DIMO device.
