DIMO Is Migrating to Base

The Polygon PoS chain has been an excellent home for the first chapter of DIMO, but the time has come to consider what is best for the next era of massive, global scale. Planning is currently underway to migrate the DIMO protocol to Base in 2025.

DIMO is a true web3 protocol gearing up to serve mainstream auto industry enterprises, DMVs, infrastructure networks, and millions of car owners. We’re gearing up to bring the world onchain and Base stands out as the ideal home because:

• Enterprise credibility: Every automaker, insurance company, and charging station will soon fully embrace DIMO as an integral part of their core stack the same way they do with the internet itself. Base has the credibility, tooling, and is used by other enterprises, enabling this adoption.

• Modernizing commerce: ACH and fax machines are slow and limiting. We’ll bring car payments onchain, tokenize ownership of robotaxi fleets, modernize insurance, and replace the DMV with smart contracts. Base’s onchain tools, along with its robust DeFi ecosystem, accelerates this innovation.

• Community: Base is undeniably one of the top chains where users and developers like to be. We expect Base to energize a broad audience of new drivers and developers. Proximity to the Base growing ecosystem of applications unlocks composable and new use cases.

• Performance & security: Base, incubated by Coinbase, is secured by Ethereum along with Optimism, bring immense talent to innovation in blockchain performance, decentralization, and interoperability ensuring that DIMO is constantly at the cutting edge of user experience.

While other chains may do just as well on some of these factors, Base is simply the best across all four. We have deep respect for other chains and will look to continue our close relationship with Polygon with a focus on the Agglayer. The final decision to migrate is subject to a governance vote of DIMO’s token holders that will take place in the future after more planning has been conducted.

While a full protocol migration will take time, one thing that can be done quickly is making the DIMO token natively available on Base. In early 2025, users will be able to send rewards directly to Base addresses in the DIMO Mobile app.
