Extending DIMO with MATT3R
Extending DIMO with MATT3R
Today the DIMO Foundation is excited to take a major step forward on the path towards an interoperable and decentralized ecosystem around modern vehicles in our partnership with the stellar team at MATT3R. The partnership between DIMO and Matt3r aims to accelerate the development of AI and autonomous vehicle (AV) models by enhancing data collection, validation, and accessibility. MATT3R will be the first company beyond Digital Infrastructure Inc. to build full-stack within the DIMO ecosystem, integrating the DIMO SDK, integrating a unique data set (video) by adding a new hardware device, building an application on top of DIMO, and eventually running a DIMO node.
This is what protocol expansion looks like.
Vehicle Cameras: A Key to Computer Vision
The field of computer vision is revolutionizing industries by enabling machines to interpret and understand visual data, from recognizing objects to identifying complex patterns in images and videos. This capability is pivotal for autonomous vehicles, which rely on high-quality visual datasets to "learn" how to navigate the world. However, a significant bottleneck in this industry is access to vast, high-quality datasets required for model training. Gathering, labeling, and validating data to ensure accuracy and relevance is both costly and time-consuming, slowing down the pace of innovation.
Modern vehicles, especially electric and autonomous-ready ones, are equipped with a suite of cameras and sensors that generate massive amounts of data. This data, which includes images, video, and sensor readings, is valuable for companies working on autonomous driving and computer vision-based applications. If companies can access this data in a structured and permissioned manner, it can significantly enhance their AI and AV models by providing real-world scenarios and environments to train and test on. However, extracting this data at scale and ensuring its accuracy while maintaining user privacy has been a challenge.
Matt3r addresses this by allowing users to collect and share relevant data from their vehicles, such as Teslas, through its K3Y device. This device enables users to gather visual and sensor data from their cars and pool it into a larger dataset for AI development. Matt3r categorizes and labels this data to make it meaningful and usable for developers. For instance, data can be sorted based on environmental factors, driving conditions, or specific visual elements, which helps companies quickly access the information most relevant to their models' needs. This crowdsourced approach also allows for data collection on a global scale, giving developers access to diverse scenarios and conditions that enhance model robustness.
This approach not only respects user privacy but also allows individuals to maintain control over their own data, sharing it only with developers and companies they trust. By leveraging first-party data, developers can access information directly from the source, ensuring it is both relevant and accurate for training purposes. Moreover, this user-centric data model benefits the users themselves, as they can reap rewards through applications like Matt3r's Consol3. Consol3 provides users with insights, analytics, and other personalized features based on the data they collect, creating a mutually beneficial system where both developers and users gain value from their contributions.
New Data, New Revenue, More Growth
DIMO’s protocol complements Matt3r’s data collection capabilities by providing a standardized framework for validating and cryptographically signing the collected data. This system of validation creates trust in the data, assuring companies that it has been accurately captured, categorized, and labeled, and has not been tampered with. MATT3R’s K3Y device uses the same secure element used throughout the DIMO ecosystem.
MATT3R’s CONSOL3 app will also get an upgrade by integrating the DIMO SDK. Existing DIMO users will be able to easily access the CONSOL3 app to pair their K3Y device, and new users of CONSOL3 can get started using DIMO - including rewards - without even using DIMO Mobile. You can do it all in CONSOL3.
This partnership goes beyond just app integrations, it extends deep into the promise of the DIMO protocol. The MATT3R team is the first to integrate a new type of data, video data, into DIMO, making it accessible to other developers. DIMO was designed to extend beyond telemetry into all kinds of data and to create interoperability. The open source nature of DIMO means the MATT3R can create this integration, monetize this integration, and run a DIMO node, extending the functionality of the ecosystem without having to rely on a centralized entity. It’s a big step forward towards decentralization.
This collaboration between Matt3r’s data aggregation platform and DIMO’s validation protocol creates a comprehensive, trustworthy data ecosystem that enhances the speed and quality at which developers can train AI and AV models worldwide. If you have a Tesla, get started now by pre-ordering your K3Y device.
What’s Launching
Matt3r will integrate the DIMO SDK into the Consol3 app, meaning existing DIMO users can easily start using Consol3 and that new users onboarded through Consol3 can earn rewards from DIMO.
DIMO will support Matt3r’s presale of the K3Y devices (pre-sale launching in November).
Matt3r will create a Data Union on DIMO and work to monetize the data with enterprises.
DIMO is building a safer, more open, and zero emission mobility future using innovative incentivization mechanisms.
